KIDS THESE DAYS

A BOY COMING OF AGE

A WORLD COMING APART

SCROLL TO LISTEN

“I have been classified as part of Generation Z.

There are no letters after Z. Meaning we have a choice:

to be an ending, or the people who do things differently.”

It’s 2019. Examination is at an all time high. Mental health problems are an epidemic. Students everywhere are striking school for the climate.

Matt is a normal teenager. He likes writing poetry. He likes his friend Aidan. He likes this girl called Amy but is too afraid to ask her out.

But sometimes being afraid isn’t an option. Sometimes you’ve got no choice but to help a friend, to take a risk, to make a stand.

Join Matt as he navigates the existential threat of climate change as well as the daily pressures of being a teenager.

Kids These Days was written and performed by Matt Sowerby, produced by Robert Hucknall and distributed by Baker Street Productions Ltd.

It was recorded by Robert Hucknall, Tom Stockwell and James Brown.

James also voiceacted Aidan. Amy was played by Jaz Pirie, Dad was played by Nigel Bradshaw and Mum was played by Angela Cockram. The School Teacher was played by Simon Cockram. Drunk Man was played by Phil Chandler, and the Climate Activist was played by Nancy Keller.

Additional voiceacting and recordings were provided by Dominic Hart, Oscar Wilton, Tom Stockwell, Angela Innes and Hannah Burrows.

‘All that you are’ was written, performed and recorded by James Brown.

Kids These Days was originally written for performance at the Edinburgh Fringe 2020.  Thanks to all those who generously donated towards the show, and especially to those who, when the Fringe was cancelled because of Covid19, offered to allow us the use of their donations elsewhere.
